My Entry For A Competition

Shift is conducting a competition and has invited submissions from all over the world. They want their logo to be designed. I sent two entries to the competition which you can see below.

I drew a chicken which came out of its shell. It’s a cartoon chicken. It’s looking confusedly at its shell because it couldn’t understand whether it came first or the egg! Yes. It’s a well-known unsolved problem - Whether the egg came first or the chicken? It’s quoted very often for paradigm shift. I used that concept and drew the chicken and egg shell. The shift type that you see below the illustration is depicted as moving left to right and vice versa. I tried to represent the concept of ‘Shift’ through this effect.

I illustrated the chicken and egg in Illustrator CS2 using a mouse.

I used the same type here but the logo mark is different. It is known that gears are used to shift speeds in vehicles. So, I used the concept of gears to depict ‘Shift’.

    Both of them are too good Saawan . First beats the second by “looks and description” and the second needs no explanation for the concept.

    here are my comments on each :

    logo 1 - looks very cool and funny, but i feel that the logo is not depicting SHIFT(??), may be it has been quoted like that but my first impression was different(!!its just my opinion :) )

    logo 2- looks pretty good, still i suggest you to comeup with better creative ideas, i can give 6 on 10 for this. i know you can do much better than this :)

    ur work is awesome man.. All The Best dude..

    @ vasanth: Thank you, Vasanth. I was looking for something to post on the blog and that’s when I came across this contest. I did the above not with an intention to win the contest. I know the work is a bit sloppy (I don’t even say that the first one, in its representation, qualifies for a logo.) but I would post quality work from now on. To be true, I just placed those gears from another logo idea of mine that I was doing for a client :D
    I wouldn’t say the idea is trashy ‘coz the chicken and egg is an example of Paradigm Shift i.e., a change in basic assumptions within the ruling theory of science.
