Album Review: Taare Zameen Par

Taare Zameen Par (Stars on earth) features music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. Though there is some experimentation, it has the usual SEL feel to it. There are slow numbers with some fast paced and funny renditions.

Taare Zameen Par

I love this track. It’s a slow rendition and reminisces of the track ‘Jeene Ke Ishaare‘ from Phir Milenge. The chorus is amazing and Shankar Mahadevan does a great job with his vocals.

The music too is well composed and syncs with the song. It’s like a lullaby!

Kholo Kholo

This one’s a medium paced song and one will enjoy with repeated listening.

Bum Bum Bole

This one is very funny. Aamir babbles something in the beginning of the song. It reminds of the tongue twister song of Fanaa. Personally, I don’t like this song much.

Jame Raho

This is a good song. I loved Vishal Dadlani’s rendition of the piece that comes in the middle of the song - ‘Yahaan alag andaz hai jaisa chidtaa koi saaz hai….‘ .

Maa

This is another of my favorites on the album. It’s a great song sung by Shankar Mahadevan from the viewpoint of a small boy who loves his mother very much. I really love the lyrics of this song.

Yoon toh main dikhlaataa nahin
Teri parwaah kartaa hoon mein maa

It’s a very slow song.

Bheja Kum

This song is a li’l irritating to me. It sounds quite similar to the PinkFloyd’s ‘Another Brick In The Wall (We Don’t Need No Education)’ but the way it’s sung, I find it irritating. Some may find it unusual and interesting! At two minutes length, this is the smallest of all tracks. This has a lotta singers lending their voices!

Mera Jahan

This is a very sweet song sung by Adnan Sami and the child’s chorus is very good. It’s composed by Shailendra Barve but not SEL.

Ishaan’s Theme

Another SEL’s theme music. It’s a very serene instrumental but it may be lacking good beats like in Kal Ho Naa Ho’s ‘Heartbeat’. Taking into account the kinda movie TZP is, it’s very apt.

I give a 3.0/5 for the album. There are good compositions on the album but the presence of mushy songs makes SEL’s USP stand out again.
